Three PhD Vacancies in Colloidal Nanocrystals Design

PhD Project Description:

Three fully-funded PhD positions are available from 1st September 2024 in the Functional Nanomaterial group (Singh’s Group) at the Department of Chemical Sciences and the Bernal Institute in University of Limerick.

These PhD projects are based on the exploratory colloidal synthesis of new ternary compositions based on alkali and alkaline earth metal based chalcogenide semiconductor nanocrystals.

With different ternary compositions targeted for different energy applications, the projects will involve synthesis of nanocrystals, their detailed structural characterization, surface chemistry analysis and investigation of their structure-property relationships by optical end electronic properties characterization.

These PhD projects are 4-year PhD structured PhD programme with financial support for 4 years, PhD student fees and a research consumables and travel budget.

Profile:

The interested candidates should have recently obtained a master’s degree in chemistry, material science, physics, engineering or related discipline with outstanding grades. The candidates are expected to have a strong experimental background in materials synthesis, exclusively inorganic-organic chemistry and knowledge of solid-state physics and electronics. English language proficiency (oral and written) is compulsory.

How to Apply :

Applications must include

  • CV
  • Motivation Letter
  • Details of 2 referees who can be contacted for recommendation letters

Applications must be submitted to Prof. Shalini Singh at Shalini.singh@ul.ie before 20th May 2024 with the subject: Application for PhD Position in Colloidal Nanocrystals

Expected Outcome

The qualified candidates will be contacted before 31st May 2024 by Prof. Singh for an interview.

We are always looking for highly motivated Postdocs, PhDs and Master students.

Interested candidates are very welcome to apply via email. Please provide a CV and a cover letter, stating your research alignment with the group  in the email.
